Mortgage Rate Movement

FEATURED BLOG POST:

WHO TO NOTIFY WHEN YOU MOVE

For most people, moving to a new home is a hectic time. It usually involves a decent amount of planning, money, packing and depending on whether or not you hired movers, heavy lifting. When I moved out of state a few years ago, one of the things that helped me avoid feeling overwhelmed ahead of the actual move day was making a checklist. It included tasks like buying boxes, arranging to cancel utilities, getting rid of things I didn’t need, etc. As organized as I thought I was, there was an additional checklist that I wish I would have created to help make things easier – a checklist of who to notify about my move and new address. … read more

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Non-farm payroll growth for the month of March rose +215k, beating expectations of +205k growth. In the household report, the unemployment rate rose from 4.92% to 5.00% as 246k more people reported as employed, 151k more people reported as unemployed, and 396k more people entered the labor force. Hourly earnings grew more than expected in March, rising +.3% month over month, bringing the year over year rate back up to 2.25%. Average weekly hours did not fall in the wake of better wage gains, which proved to be another net positive. Market reaction after the jobs release was overly muted in both Treasuries and MBS.
Technically, we are still watching for 10s to break strong resistance at ~1.75% for signs of a push to lower yields. Any trade back through the ~1.85% level would simply stall the bullish rally we’ve seen this past week. For now, we think it’s a great time to take advantage of the improved interest rates and pricing.
